life's a party, let's celebrate every day

Cars

It’s Think Outside the Box Thursday!   You don’t have to stick with traditional party games and activities to have a great party. As a matter of fact, thinking outside the box will make your party more memorable. Our cardboard racetrack challenge is a perfect activity for a cars theme party. The kids will build cars with Legos and race them down homemade cardboard tracks and ramps.

This activity is so easy and you only need materials you likely already have on hand at home.  You’ll need:

  • Legos (with lots and lots of wheels!)

  • Plenty of matchbox-type cars if your lucky little isn’t into Lego building. The road tape is also perfect to have on hand for some extra car zooming.

  • Cardboard of all shapes and sizes to make the tracks and ramps (we save boxes, toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, and any other recyclables for few weeks)

  • Various colored painters tape, scissors, and markers/crayons

While each lucky kid builds his or her own car, we like to have the kids work in partnerships to build the ramps and tracks.  It’s amazing to see how creative the kids can be when they put their heads together! Who will be the lucky winner? We always let our guests take home their car creations, so be sure to stock up on extra Legos and little cars.

Finally, if you do not already own this track, please go get it!  It is hands-down the best “toy” we’ve ever had.  We’ve had our track for over 16 years and it STILL gets played with.  We call it the “loopy track.”  My 11 year old and his cousin hold a racing tournament each summer with all of our little cars. It’s simply the best toy, and fun for all ages.

Inspire your lucky kids to think outside the box. This is our favorite picture book to get kids thinking. What can you do with a box?
